For the 2017 Humanae vitae Award!

Each year the Diocese of Saint Cloud presents the Humanae vitae Award to a person who has exhibited extraordinary courage in promoting the teachings of Humanae vitae.

The prophetic encyclical, written by Pope Paul VI and released in 1968, explains Catholic Church teaching about human life and the reasons natural methods are best for achievement or postponement of pregnancy.  Humanae vitae describes the two inseparable meanings of the spouse’s loving act:  the unitive meaning and the procreative meaning.  Cooperating with God’s design for human love and marriage allows each spouse to participate in total self-giving and receiving of the other.

Past recipients of the Humanae vitae Award include:  Most Reverend George Speltz, Monsignor Daniel Taufen, Father Anthony Oelrich, Father Ronald Lawler, Father Edwin Kraemer, Robert and Mary Joyce, Dave and Kay Ek, Father Alvin Quade, Father Paul Zylla, Father Thomas Knoblach, Mary Jo Ruhland, Sister Clare Witzman, Donald and Linda Christen, Father Richard Walz, Dr. Norman and Kathleen Virnig, Arnie and Margie Benusa, and Father Nichloas Landsberger.

Many people in our diocese courageously promote this important Church teaching through ministry, education, and witness.  Who do you know that has proclaimed this teaching of the Church and promoted the truth about human sexuality?  Please submit your nominee by writing a descriptive essay (500 words or less) of his/her qualifications.  Mail, fax, or e-mail nominations before May 31, 2017 to:
